It has a lot of of the same problems that Troy has though I personally think it did better following a story. I imagine you've already made up your mind on 3K but I would still like to recommend it as a contender. I've heard the dlc adds some interesting starts and units but I can't speak for that though if this is true it just seems like waiting for a sale and picking out one or two that look like they'll mix it up a bit.

There is no artillery in the game which is interesting for a while because they've added some neat ways around this but some players weren't so keen on such infantry/cav heavy battles for a full campaign. Often you'll be surrounded by allies because the Greek and Trojan alliances area already in place so the avenues for expansion mean sailing across the sea and having so many turns at sea can be a little boring. The major problem I personally had is that the game really lacks replay ability once you play a Greek faction and then a Trojan faction only the first 30 or so turn really feel any different. At it's core it a good TW with some unique takes on the economy and combat that I doubt we'll see again anytime soon. Only if it's at a very good price or you really love the setting.
